Descripton

Norske Skog engaged Voith to complete a paper machine rebuild at their Albury Mill. This rebuild included a Nipcoflex Shoe Press and modifications to the wire section, calendar, dryers and an automatic tail threading system.

MIPAC was engaged to provide electrical and automation services to support this rebuild.

I managed a team of up to ten to complete the following project scope,

• Configuration of the new and modified off machine systems in the Metso DNA DCS.
• Conversion of existing PLC based machine control systems to Metso DNA control (dryer fabric conditioners, tail threading, lube oil monitoring system)
• Configuration and installation design of machine controls not included in the turn key delivery. (Calendar and Reel tail Threading, Calendar modifications)
• Software integration testing

Challanges

This project included several challenges, including,

• Extended period of working on rotating shift providing 24/7 coverage with a small team
• Coordinating between multiple package vendors
